EFT Exhibits at Osaka–Kansai Expo TEAM EXPO 2025 Pavilion

Co-Creation Challenge “Toward a Sustainable Future: Circular Solutions for Lithium-Ion Battery Collection and Recycling”

Emulsion Flow Technologies Ltd. (EFT) exhibited at the TEAM EXPO Pavilion (Future Life Village) at the Osaka–Kansai Expo held from 15 to 17 August 2025, together with Marktec Corporation, Re-Teck Renewable Energy Solutions Inc. (Re-Teck RES), KDDI Corporation, and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. The joint theme of the exhibition and talk sessions was “Establishing a Circular System for Lithium-ion Battery Collection and Realizing Sustainable Recycling.”

Exhibition: “Re-CIRCLE” (August 1517, 2025)

The exhibition introduced the end-to-end circular process of recovering rare metals from waste batteries and reusing them in new battery products, highlighting each company’s unique strengths:

  • KDDI: Support for collecting batteries from smartphones and drones
  • Re-Teck RES: Cell analysis and production of high-purity black mass
  • EFT: Separation and extraction of rare metals using the proprietary solvent extraction technology Emulsion Flow
  • Marktec: Performance and compositional analysis of recycled materials
  • Mitsui O.S.K. Lines: Global transportation of recycled materials and batteries

The booth also showcased symbolic exhibits, such as KDDI’s mobile phone disassembly samples and drones, a model of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines’ next-generation vessel, a lithium-ion battery explosion-proof box from Re-Teck RES, analytical equipment from Marktec, and EFT’s process model with rare metal samples.

Visitors were able to intuitively experience how resource circulation works, and many expressed sentiments such as building circular systems is vital” and we want a safe future for the next generation.”

Talk Show (August 15, 2025)

Panel Discussion

Representatives from the five exhibiting companies introduced their businesses and engaged in Q&A with the audience.

EFT’s President & CEO, Dr. Hiroshi Suzuki, presented the features of the innovative Emulsion Flow technology and explained EFT’s vision for combining resource circulation with environmental protection.

Audience questions highlighted business perspectives such as how do we generate value from recycled materials, and how do we communicate that value to consumers?” This discussion underlined that, beyond solving technical challenges, value communication to consumers is critical for both economic sustainability and broader social recognition.

Talk Session: Understanding Each Other Through Conversation

The session featured photographer Masafumi Sanai (photographer) and Tomohiro Kasai (CEO of Re-Teck RES), who explored the future society from cultural and social perspectives.

Mr. Sanai drew on Albert Einstein’s enduring questions, stressing the importance of passing on challenges and curiosity to future generations. He also noted that “The future is not a distant concept but already alive in our everyday lives and sensibilities.” Mr. Kasai illustrated how resource circulation is connected to social systems and daily life through concrete examples.

The session reaffirmed, together with the audience, that “The future is not something to wait for, but something we create step by step.”

The events were lively throughout, providing a rare opportunity for experts and visitors to engage directly, fostering empathy and encouraging action toward a sustainable future.

EFT’s Mission

Born out of research at the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, EFT’s proprietary solvent extraction technology Emulsion Flow is the foundation of its two core businesses:

  • Resource Circulation Business (Rare metal recovery and recycling from lithium-ion batteries)
  • Environmental Solutions Business (removal of pollutants such as PFAS)

Through this Expo exhibition, EFT has demonstrated how a start-up can co-create with leading corporations to deliver Japan-born innovation in resource circulation and environmental conservation to the world.

EFT will continue its mission of “Transforming society with separation technology and building a sustainable future.”
