Re-Teck, Emulsion Flow Technologies, and Honda Trading have started coordinating with the aim of collaboration towards resource circulation in the lithium-ion batteries
Re-Teck Co., Ltd. (Re-Teck), Emulsion Flow Technologies Ltd. (EFT), and Honda Trading Corporation (Honda Trading) have initiated collaboration toward the recycling of lithium-ion batteries in the context of resource circulation.
Towards the realization of carbon neutrality in 2050, Re-Teck, as a global leader in Reverse Supply Chain Management*, provides general battery recycling solutions, including for lithium-ion batteries. It is also involved in the extraction and formation of highly pure black mass. EFT aims to achieve the recycling of rare earth metals such as cobalt, nickel, lithium, and others, utilizing innovative technologies, Emulsion Flow, in solvent extraction. Honda Trading is also considering new business models for the realization of a carbon-free, recycling-based society in the mobility industry and other industries.
As the electrification in the mobility industry, including automobiles and motorcycles, accelerates and demand for lithium-ion batteries grows, there are concerns about supply shortages and CO2 emissions from the mining and refining of the rare metals that are used to make them.
The three companies will collaborate to consider the collection of used lithium-ion batteries, extraction of rare metals from them, and re-use of those rare metals as raw materials in new batteries, with the aim of stable resources recycling that will lead to the reduction of CO2 emissions. At the same time, they also have solid-state batteries and other various types of batteries that are being developed and commercialized in their sights, with the aim of realizing sustainable recycling, particularly of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
